Meet Herman & Paul

Herman Kruis and Paul Simon started serving the Brant County a place to play chess dating back to 1980s. They ran chess challenges and tournament in malls, schools, and restaurants.

A Game Fit For Kings

That's right! White Knight Chess Promotions events were once held at none other than Burger King itself. Fans of the game would gather and play at the available tables a lot like what happens today at The Paris Wincey Mills.

A Family Endeavor

Like father like son when it comes to the game of chess. David, the son of Herman Kruis, is seen along with his father in their newspaper mentions focused intensely on the games before them.

Lynden Park Mall Chess Challenge

All players who succeeded in defeating Mr. Dobrich received a year's subscription to Chess Canada. The Lynden Park Mall sponsored the event and all proceeds being turned over to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

Branlyn Loves Chess

One on occasion tournament directors chess master Paul Simon and Herman Kruis ran an event of more than 3,800 chess games in January 1995. A few years later in February 1998 Chess Master Paul Simon played 221 opponents for eleven and a half hours to set a Canadian record for most chess matches played in a single time.

First Biannual Chess Tournament

A few decades later and White Knight Chess Promotions continues to provide the community an opportunity to compete in the game of chess. Located at the Paris Beer Company's Bottle Shop, the White Knight Chess promotions team held a first tournament of many.
